Summer is here and with that comes more sunshine, longer days, and less motivation during the work day. Employees take more vacations and spend more time thinking about what they could be doing instead of doing their actual work. It can become harder to keep your employees engaged during these months, and with new projects surfacing, preparing for quarter end and budgeting for a new fiscal year, this is an important time for everyone to be focused while at the office.
This is something that all companies must deal with every year, so here are some ways to keep employees involved and happy.
Plan More Events. Plan monthly events for the office, like a company picnic or a potluck. Giving employees something to look forward to will increase motivation and the chance to be out in the sun is always a welcoming change of scenery.
Spend More Time Outside. Just because we are in offices all day doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the sun. Sometimes employees feel they cannot go outside and enjoy their lunch or take a walk during their breaks, but this is a season that is to be enjoyed so make sure you employees know you understand that. You can even schedule a group walk for lunchtime and breaks within the company so people can enjoy the sunshine together.
Celebrate! There are many holidays and big events during the summer. Bring the celebration and fun into the office with relevant contests and activities for employees to participate in. Having an Independence Day crossword puzzle with a small prize like a $5 gift card is sure to liven up everyone’s day.
Learning Opportunities. How often do employees in different departments interact with one another? Do they even understand each other’s jobs? Holding an inner office Open House or workshop sessions can be a way to have employees interact and learn more about their coworkers and their involvement with the company. Additionally, having a better understanding of all the different roles in the company might make an employee more motivated and willing to help each other out.
Although you expect your employees to stay involved even with the warm weather calling their name, inviting some of these tips in the workplace will help them stay more motivated. Please share with us your results after implementing some of these ideas at your company; we would love to hear from you!
